WHAT CASES ARE WE ACCEPTING?
We are accepting cases where a retrievable IVC Filter has caused one or more of the injuries listed below.
WHAT IS THIS MEDICAL DEVICE AND WHY IS IT USED?
IVC stands for Inferior Vena Cava, which is a large vein that carries blood from the lower body to the heart. An IVC filter is a metal device that looks much like a spider with a small body and very long legs. The product is marketed as a preventive measure to be used by patients who are at a high risk for a pulmonary embolism (blood clot in the lung). The device is surgically placed within the patient’s IVC vein to stop blood clots that develop in the lower body before they can reach the lungs, heart or brains of the patient, and is designed with the intention that it be retrieved at a later date.
WHAT CAN GO WRONG?
